About Daniel Island
Just north of Mt. Pleasant is the island community of Daniel Island situated between the Cooper and Wando Rivers. Formerly owned by the Guggenheim Foundation, this land was used for farming until the 1990's when development started on this master planned community designed to be self sufficient having shops, restaurants, schools and business in addition to a tennis stadium sponsored by newcomer to town, Volvo, which hosts an annual professional tennis tournament as well as many other concerts and events. Daniel Island is characterized by it's thoughtful implementation of hundreds of acres of parks and green spaces throughout the island as well as being home to one of Charleston's few completely private golf clubs with courses designed by Tom Fazio and Rees Jones.
